PETA has been piling up victories for chimpanzees, humans’ closest living genetic relatives. Showing that animals are not props, after our campaign, Hallmark stopped producing greeting cards featuring degrading images of chimpanzees—and there are no more chimpanzees in Hollywood! In landmark developments, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service made the decision to classify all captive chimpanzees as “endangered,” effectively ending invasive experiments, and the National Institutes of Health announced that it would retire all federally owned chimpanzees to sanctuaries.
